How many calories in a bottle of red wine on average?

On average,a 750mL bottle of red wine with 12-14% alcohol will have 525-650 calories in total. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA),the red wine average is 122 calories per 5 ounce serving in a glass of dry red wine ranging from light-bodied to full-bodied. This is the equivalent to a red wine standard of 25 calories on average per ounce in a dry red wine.

Comparatively, white wine calories hover around an average of 24 per ounce or around 600 calories per 750mL bottle,so only slightly fewer calories than red wines.

Rose wines have an average of 25 calories per ounce, more than most dry red and white wines.

Meanwhile sparkling wines have some of the lowest calorie counts, with Prosecco for example coming in at just 520 calories per 750mL bottle or 20.8 calories per ounce.

Here are some ways to store red wine bottles:

1. Keep the bottle upright:For wine after opening, the bottle should be kept upright, because this can reduce the contact area between oxygen and wine and delay the oxidation process.

2. Refrigerated storage:Placing red wine bottles in the refrigerator compartment can effectively slow down the oxidation process of the wine. However, please note that too low a temperature may cause the cork to harden and lose its elasticity, allowing excess air to enter the bottle and causing excessive oxidation of the wine.

3. Use a vacuum stopper or Cora Vent:These tools can help extract excess air from the bottle and slow down the oxidation process.

4. Avoid light and vibration:Long-term light will destroy the aromatic substances and pigments in the wine, while vibration may destroy the internal molecular structure of the wine and affect its quality.

5. Appropriate humidity:It is ideal to maintain a humidity of about 70%. This can prevent the cork from drying out and shrinking, causing oxygen to enter the bottle.
